Unveiling Toowoomba’s First Fashion Festival: Inside the Iconic Empire Theatre

Lights, camera, action!

As the countdown for the Toowoomba Fashion Festival nears its end, the iconic Empire Theatre prepares for a day of delight, fashion design and models decked out in the finest fabrics. Widely known as the “jewel of the crown” of the Darling Downs area, The Empire Theatre holds great cultural and historical significance as the largest performing arts precinct in regional Australia.

The theatre’s interior is adorned with intricate details and grand furnishings, remnants from eras past. Originally built in 1911 as a silent movie theatre, it was renovated twenty years later to feature live performances alongside film screenings. This renovation defined the theatre’s style with a luxurious Art Deco design, predominant during its time in the 1920s and ’30s.

Fast forward almost a hundred years, the theatre regularly hosts a plethora of performances — from musicals to plays, concerts, and comedy shows. And now, we are more eager than ever to see Toowoomba’s first fashion festival! The fashion spectacle will kick off at 2:00 pm sharp this Saturday, March 16th, unveiling three stunning designer runways right inside the famous walls of The Empire.

The ethos of the Empire remains simple after all these years: the theatre aims to foster relationships within regional communities and to strengthen a love for the performing arts. From supporting aspiring artists to showcasing the talent of Toowoomba and beyond, The Empire is alive with creativity and culture. Keep your eyes peeled to witness the magic inside its walls when the Toowoomba Fashion Festival well and truly kicks off this weekend.
